Fire Department

STFD serves Springfield and Sandusky Townships and the City of Ontario from two firehouses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Overview & Mission

The department staffs six to nine cross-trained firefighter/EMTs or firefighter/paramedics and serves more than 12,000 residents, along with thousands of daily visitors to Ontario's regional commercial district.

Our mission: To protect and preserve life and property while maintaining the highest standards of fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, education, and safety programs. Our members continually strive for integrity and excellence.

EMS Services

Cross-trained personnel provide emergency medical response with a service-first commitment to residents and visitors.

Emergency Medical Services

For a medical emergency, call 911. Do not delay care because of insurance or billing questions. Emergency treatment comes first; administrative questions are handled afterward.

CPR Classes

Medication & Sharps Disposal

Do not place loose needles or sharps in household trash. Contact the department before bringing material to a station so staff can direct you to an approved local disposal option.

Fire & EMS Report Requests

To request an incident report, contact the administrative office at (419) 529-5512. Staff can confirm identification, authorization, and any applicable fee.

Fire Prevention

Inspection, plan review, permits, and prevention resources help keep homes, businesses, and public spaces safe.

Knox Box

Rapid-entry key boxes can help firefighters reach a building without unnecessary delay or damage. Contact Fire Prevention before ordering or installing a commercial or residential Knox Box.

Permits & Fee Schedule

Current applications, permit requirements, and the approved fee schedule can be published here as downloads. Contact Fire Prevention to confirm which permit applies.

Fire Watch

A fire watch may be required when a required fire-protection system is impaired. The department can provide current procedures and the applicable log.

Open Burning

Open burning is regulated and seasonal restrictions may apply. Contact Fire Prevention before burning to confirm requirements and current conditions.

Fireworks & Special Events

Fireworks displays and certain special events may require advance review, permits, site plans, and inspections. Contact Fire Prevention early in your planning.
